Description
The vibrant Patriot Radio Room Clock is a fully functional timepiece that serves as a window into oceanic travel history. Following the sinking of the Titanic, U.S. Congress passed the Radio Act of 1912. This, along with successive regulatory acts, mandated 24-hour radio watches for all coastal stations and vessels at sea. It also designated three-minute "silent periods" for voice and radio transmissions where only safety and emergency signals were permitted. Radio designs such as this naval time clock made it easier to observe the silent periods.
Although most modern ocean communications are sent digitally, a Radio Room Clock is good to have as a failsafe. These nautical clocks will add historical style to homes and offices as well, being a conversation starter for fellow marine enthusiasts. Other Patriot collection items like the Patriot Deck Barometer and Patriot Deck Tide Instrument let you put together a complete marine weather display so your vessel is always ready to brave the ocean waters.
The Patriot 24-Hour Radio Clock is based on our WWII-era engine room clocks. The red sectors on the dial indicate Morse Code silence and the green sectors are for voice transmission silence. Red bars around the outside are for timing the official ITC alarm signal. In addition to the black hour, minute and second hands, there is a white "Zulu" hour hand for setting to another time zone. A heat-resistant black phenolic resin, clear glass lens and silver dial make this a lasting chronometer. Every Patriot Radio Room Deck Clock has a unique serial number and accurate quartz movement.
